Founded in 2002, SMUDS is SMU’s established debating society. As a community, SMUDS aims to celebrate everyone’s unique perspective and to develop the ability to communicate clearly and confidently.
Weekly sessions centre around real world issues across different themes such as economics, business and society, where members can train as debaters and as judges. Not an experienced debater? No worries! Join SMUDS to see what it's all about, and pick up some skills to participate in class more effectively while you’re at it.
SMUDS holds two large-scale, flagship debating tournaments - SMU Hammers and BPIV which attracts top teams from across Asia. They also participate in various local and international tournaments such as ABP, UADC and Worlds where they compete against teams from all over the world.
